Soak up the summer sun, drop by drop! These inventive earrings use the power of the sun's rays to melt glass into gorgeous glass teardrops. A giant magnifying glass focuses the sun onto glass, which melts from the intense 3000° heat, is pulled downward by gravity, and then cools into its new "sundrop" shape.
Choose Strike Red, Black, Honey, or Teal Flare. Each pair of earrings is a unique distillation of solar style!
Glass drops measure between 1" and 1.25" L (between 2.54 and 3.2 cm L), and come on sterling silver ear hooks with hypoallergenic rubber stoppers. Handmade in the U.S.A.

Sundrop Jewelry
"As finding alternative energy sources becomes more urgent we seek to demonstrate the potential of harnessing the energy pouring onto the earth each day in sunlight."
Utilizing a unique glass working technique invented by artist Bretwood Higman (as a teenager in Alaska experimenting with a giant magnifying glass on the beach!), glass is melted in the intense heat at the focal point of a giant lens. Gravity and surface tension pull the glass into a lobe that cools as it falls, stretching into the distinctive "sundrop" shape.
With a strong commitment to the environment, single color drops are made with glass strips recycled from bottles or art-glass scrap, while multi-color drops are made with scrap glass kiln melted into a single, twisted spiral. The actual jewelry making process uses only the amazing potential of solar energy with a lens that can focus the sun into a point so intense it can melt not only glass but metal and even rock at an amazing 3000^ F.
Sundrop Jewelry is created by several different artists, capturing the sunlight that falls in their own backyards.
