Sign the petition to tell President Donald Trump that the U.S. must remain in UNESCO.

Membership in UNESCO is restricted only to those countries worthy of protecting humanity's most valuable treasures, its environment, and its culture. To let political bickering stop our country from exercising this privilege could condemn many of the world's people and their heritage to the void of history.

The United States has been a part of this organization since its formation in the mid '40s, alongside China, the United Kingdom, the United States and the then USSR. Tensions between UNESCO and the U.S. arose 40 years later, when the organization recognized the Palestinian Liberation Organization, and later Palestine, which has been labeled "continuing anti-Israel bias [1]."

The most recent upset stems from UNESCO's designation of Hebron, in Jerusalem, as a World Heritage Site for Palestine, prompting Israel to recall its own delegate [2].

UNESCO places no distinction on race, sex, language, or religion, as declared by the Charter of the United Nations [3]. The withdrawal of the U.S. would not move this spirit of equality forward, but rather hinder its progress.

Now in arrears to UNESCO for $80 million in past dues, and growing increasingly distant, the U.S. has asked to "remain engaged with UNESCO as a non-member observer state in order to contribute U.S. views, perspectives and expertise on some of the important issues undertaken by the organization, including the protection of world heritage, advocating for press freedoms, and promoting scientific collaboration and education," State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert wrote in a statement on October 12, 2017 [4].

The decision will go into effect on Dec. 31, 2018.

Continued membership in UNESCO is a commitment to peace and security in the world through collaboration with other nations, furthering the causes of education, science, culture and communication, as well as a universal respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms.

An exit from UNESCO trashes the moral responsibility the Unites States was founded on, promoting truth and justice for all.

Dear President Trump,

The people of the United States have spoken, and it's clear we want our country to remain in UNESCO!

An exit from UNESCO trashes the moral responsibility the Unites States was founded on, promoting truth and justice for all.

Continued membership in UNESCO is a commitment to peace and security in the world through collaboration with other nations, furthering the causes of education, science, culture and communication, as well as a universal respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms.

Membership in UNESCO is restricted only to those countries worthy of protecting humanity's most valuable treasures, its environment, and its culture. To let political bickering stop our country from exercising this privilege could condemn many of the world's people and their heritage to the void of history.

I demand you rescind the order to remove the United States from UNESCO, and restore our country's status as stewards of culture and heritage throughout the world.

Sincerely,

Petition Signatures
