Food Waste Must Stop

Food waste is a problem. In the U.S. at least 40 percent of the food produced for consumption is never eaten. Instead, perfectly good food is being thrown away because it doesn't meet unrealistic standards of appearance. It doesn't have to be this way.

Help provide hungry Haitan students with adequate food!

In 2010 a terrible earthquake rocked the nation of Haiti; 220,000 people were killed and more than 300,000 people were injured. Many children lost their parents in the disaster and have to live in temporary homes that are overcrowded and understaffed. Many of these children do not have secure access to food and have to rely on their schools to receive the only meals they get for the week.

To assist in this situation, Institut Edeline strives to feed 135 children and 12 teachers two healthy meals a day. However, this has become a challenge. The current kitchen at Institut Edeline is in a very small storage closet, without adequate ventilation. Charcoal is used for fuel and the smoke is inhaled by cooks and the children because it blows into classrooms. This results in an unhealthy environment and inefficient system to cook the food.
