Somalia After the Famine

After two decades of civil war and a deadly famine, a relative sense of calm has returned to Mogadishu, the capitol of Somalia. But systemic problems remain for the nation as it tries to grapple with huge refugee camps, a complex public health situation, and continued struggles between Al-Shabaab and governmental forces outside the capitol.

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) deployed its Emergency Response Team in 2011 to assess the health needs of the displaced people living in Mogadishu. Their work, paired with a good harvest, has helped ease the crisis in the region.
