Carly Loosevelt first encountered SitStayRead at her school. In 2003, she was one of the SitStayReaders and, in 2011, she came back to the organization as volunteer!
"After a visit to the office last week with her mom and her sister Sheila (also in our first program) to learn about volunteering, Carly signed-up to help out in the office after school on Wednesdays. How cool is that?" wrote SitStayRead co-founder MaryEllen Schneider in April.
In July, Carly was honored along with other star volunteers by SitStayRead.
Other good news this summer from SitStayRead included a report that nearly 500 students received SitStayRead Summer Reading Fun Packs at the year-end Reading Reward Celebrations. Wrote one young reader: "Thank you for the book bag and everything else in it. Really I was shocked. I'm using my book bag now. I mean right now."
SitStayRead is a non-profit offering dog themed literacy programs to inner city Chicago school children, encouraging the love of reading in them. GreaterGood.org supports this group through grants and the Gifts That Give More program at The Literacy Site.
