HSI begins a street dog program in Bhutan

Bhutan monk and street dogThe Humane Society International is currently working in Bhutan on a three-to-five year catch, neuter, vaccinate, and release program for the estimated 50,000 street dogs living there.

The Bhutan government is providing half the funding for sterilization, and is committed to the long-term effort. So far, HSI staff have treated more than 16,800 dogs. supports this program through contributions from The Animal Rescue Site's Gifts That Give More [tm] program.

Earlier this year, partnered with the Humane Society International to provide assistance to animal rescue groups in Japan following the tsunami and earthquake there. With's contributions of more than $200,000 to these efforts, HSI will continue to assist animal rescue efforts in Japan through 2012.
