Darfur School Program students ace high school entrance exam

The Darfur Schools Program provides educational opportunities to underserved children in camps in North Darfur and Chad. The program is sponsored by the Darfur Peace & Development Organization (DPDO).

DPDOIn 2009, student enrollment in these schools increased from 8,300 to 21,112. Girls made up 48% of the total student population and were enrolled in the same classes as boys.

Eighth grade students at the DPDO Schools completed the 2009/10 school year with a high school entrance exam. All DPDO schools reported at least 94% of their students passing the exam, while the Shobani and Daro schools reported 100% of their students achieved passing grades. Three students in the program were the highest-scoring students in Northern Darfur.

In writing to thank GreaterGood.org for its "generous support," Katherine Naugle noted that DPDO had used GreaterGood.org’s contributions to expand and enhance the Darfur Schools Program.
