What is The Hunger Site?
The Hunger Site is an online activism site that offers simple ways to help in the fight against the silent killers of hunger and food insecurity.
Clicking is Free
In just a few seconds each day, visitors can click on the yellow "Click Here to Give - it's FREE" button on the home page and, at no cost to them, help feed the hungry worldwide. Cups of food are paid for by The Hunger Site's sponsors and distributed by Mercy Corps and Millennium Promise worldwide, and by Feeding America (formerly America's Second Harvest) to food banks throughout the United States.
100% of sponsor advertising fees goes to our charitable partners.
The Hunger Site was founded on June 1, 1999. To date, more than 328 million visitors have clicked to give more than 25,000 metric tons of food (that's more than 447 million cups of food!) to the world's hungry via a simple and free daily click.
Shopping Gives Even More
The store offers a wide array of items to show your support as well as fair-traded and handcrafted items from around the world that help families and communities pull themselves out of the poverty and hunger cycle.
Together, your free daily click and your purchasing power through The Hunger Site store create a powerful, positive force for saving lives.
How does the site work?
When you click on the yellow "Click Here to Give - it's FREE" button, your click is counted by our servers and you move to the Thank You page, where you will see small ads for our site sponsors. There is no charge to you; cups of food are fully paid for by these sponsors.
100% of sponsor advertising fees goes to our charitable partners.
Every click on the yellow button results in funding for Mercy Corps, Feeding America, and Millennium Promise. The more people who click, the more cups of food we can fund.
Who pays for the cups of food?
Site sponsors purchase small ads on the Thank You page for a certain amount of time. The Hunger Site then tabulates the number of people who click during that time frame and bill the sponsor for the appropriate amount. The Hunger Site divides the click monies between three leading hunger relief organizations: Mercy Corps, Feeding America (formerly America's Second Harvest), and Millennium Promise.
100% of sponsor advertising fees goes to our charitable partners.
How do you calculate the amount of food given by visitors' clicks?
We count the number of clicks each day. The amount paid for those clicks is based on the type and structure of advertising agreement the site sponsors have with The Hunger Site.
The two keys to the success of The Hunger Site are site sponsors and visitors like you. The more sponsors the site has, the more funding toward hunger relief is given with each click. The more visitors who click each day, the more advertising fees we can collect and the more food relief we can fund together!
How often can I click on the "Click Here to Give - it's FREE" button? Can I just keep clicking and give thousands of cups of food at once?
You can click once a day, every day of the year on The Hunger Site and on each of our other Click to Give™ sites. Our agreement with our sponsors allows us to count one click, per person, per calendar day. A monitoring system is set up to check this. While you could click on the button ten or a hundred or a thousand times, we will only count one click from you. In the meantime, our system could be slowed down, possibly overloaded, preventing other visitors' clicks from generating funding. Please note that we count clicks received through company firewalls, proxy servers, etc., to the best of our ability. We count every click as fairly and accurately as possible.
How much food has been given? Where is food distributed?
Please see our Results — How You're Helping page for a detailed breakdown of funding generated. Funds are split between the three beneficiaries, with two-thirds going to fight hunger internationally, and the remaining one-third going to support hunger relief efforts in the United States. Mercy Corps works to alleviate suffering, poverty and oppression in Africa, Eastern Europe and the Middle East. Millennium Promise provides bold and innovative programs to help rural communities in Sub-Saharan Africa lift themselves out of extreme poverty. Feeding America is the largest food distribution organization in the United States and serves more than 26 million people.
Are cookies required to count my click?
You do not have to accept cookies in order to click and have your click count!
For enhanced site visitor experience, we may use a cookie to store your click history. This would only be used to display your click history to you, and is purely optional. In addition, some of our site underwriters may use cookies in the process of displaying their sponsor ads. In any case, you are not required to accept cookies to click.
