The Sudanese government's support of a war on the citizens of Darfur has resulted in hundreds of thousands of casualties and millions of displaced people. It's a conflict funded primarily by revenues earned from the sale of the country's oil exports.
Do you know which oil companies are funding war in Darfur? Help the American people find out. Sign the petition below and tell a friend!
The conflict in the Sudan's western district of Darfur - a war that has raged on since 2003 - has killed hundreds of thousands of civilians as well as displacing almost three million people who are fleeing the fighting.
It's a war that is being paid for primarily by revenue created by the country's oil industry. 90% of the country's export income is derived from the sale of oil to companies in China, Malaysia, Indonesia, and India, among others.
By finding out specifically which companies are contributing to this conflict, we can help put the pressure on American-based firms and investment companies with holdings in those companies, letting them know that they can use the power of their profits to take a stand against the human rights abuses taking place in Darfur.
We can also use this information to help us make informed decisions about which companies we are spending money with. By cutting into their bottom line, we can hopefully get our voices heard about this global concern.
Dear President Obama, As a supporter of The Hunger Site, which is a member of the Save Darfur Coalition, I urge you to support efforts to provide full transparency for all oil company payments to Sudan. Profits from the sale of oil support the Sudanese government and their war in Darfur. Americans should know which oil companies have the power to make a difference in Sudan. Please require that all oil companies doing business in the United States reveal all payments made to the government of Sudan. Sincerely, |
