An unorthodox breast cancer fundraiser took place in Exeter Township, Pennsylvania, as a group of Philadelphia Eagles fans painted a junked Ford Escort pink and charged residents to whack the car with the weapon of their choice, according to the Reading Eagle
For $5 the residents were allowed to take a few swings at the pink vehicle with a bat or the more popular sledgehammer. Organizer Joe Reilly and a few of his friends set up the fundraiser and earned more than $640 which they donated to Breast Cancer Supportive Services of Berks County.
The fundraiser was put on in honor of Cheryl Neiswander, a breast cancer patient from Douglassville who has just completed her second round of chemotherapy. Neiswander is a close friend of Reilly and his buddies and is touched by their gesture.
"I'm just one out of a million people that have this disease, but they make me feel special," Neiswander told the news source. "I have a long way to go, but I [have] a lot of people behind me that care a lot."
According to BreastCancer.org, there are more than 2.5 million breast cancer survivors living in the United States.
