Dodgeball for breast cancer

Students from Culpeper, Virginia have started a new fundraiser to benefit breast cancer research that could prove to become a yearly tradition. The Student Council Association at Culpeper County High School held a dodgeball tournament which pitted the students against the teachers and raised over $1,100 for charity, according to StarExponent.com.

The students of Culpeper raised money for Pamper Me Pink, an area charity that provides mammograms for uninsured or underprivileged residents. The dodgeball competition was dubbed The Blue Devils for a Cause Tournament and charged 50 cents per person to participate.

The event concluded with the final match between the teachers and the sophomore Student Council officers, which was won by the teachers.

"The SCA wanted to do something for breast cancer, and dodgeball was just something that the kids enjoy," said Student Council Association advisor, Heidi Murphy.

Combined with funds collected by the Country Club of Culpeper and the Alpha Delta Kappa Society, Pamper Me Pink has raised $8,619 this year to help area residents.

According to the American Cancer Society, women should begin yearly mammograms at age 40.
